Rash of Pharmacy Error Due to Negligence in Georgia

Katz Wright & Fleming LLC, LLC is a personal injury law firm that has handled many pharmacy negligence cases in the Atlanta area and throughout Georgia. The number of pharmacy error cases in the United States keeps increasing as more and more pressure is placed upon pharmacists at the big box employers such as CVS, RiteAid, Walgreens and Walmart. For example, pharmacists are often discouraged from taking bathroom or lunch breaks during their shifts because rule and regulations which require the pharmacy to close if there is not a pharmacists on site and working. Examples of actionable malpractice include, but are not limited to:

The patient’s doctor ordering medication to raise blood pressure the blood pressure of single mom to treat the patient after a stroke and the pharmacy dispensing medication which actually raised her blood pressure causing post-stroke complications.

A middle-aged man who was prescribed medication to treat skin lesions. The pharmacy filled the prescription with the wrong medication which caused boils to form on most of the skin on his body, including his genitals.

A 12 year-old boy was prescribed a drug to treat his lung condition. The pharmacy filled the prescription with a drug that treats the active form of this condition,  causing adverse reactions while the boy took the drug (which he did not need).

The patient was prescribed two different medications which, when taken with a number of other medications which he was taken and which were on his pharmacy profile, interacted and caused severe side effects. The pharmacy filled the prescription despite warnings triggered by the pharmacy’s own internal warning system that the new medications should not be administered with the existing medication profile on the customer.

A mother of 3 was provided the wrong medication at the pharmacy and wound up being hospitalized due to confusion and anxiety caused by the medication that she was given my the pharmacy. The pharmacy, a local pharmacy in town, misread the prescription and instead of verifying which drug was prescribed by the patient’s doctor, the pharmacy simply filled the prescription and never bother to check with the prescribing doctor or double-check against the patient’s profile prior to dispensing the wrong medication. This resulted in an involuntary admission to the psychiatry ward of a local hospital for evaluation and care that was caused the anti-psychotic drug that was negligently dispensed. This resulted in a lengthy stay in the hospital and a lot of related trauma caused by the event of being involuntarily admitted.
